Apple Crisp

An easy, classic dessert using fresh apples

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Butter a 10″ round or 9″ x 9″ inch square baking pan. Peel, core and coarsely chop the apples. Place them in a large bowl and Immediately toss with lemon juice; set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl mix together the 1/4 cup light brown sugar, 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar, cornstarch, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. nutmeg.
  4. Add to the apples and toss to coat thoroughly.
  5. Place the apple mixture into the prepared pan.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, remaining sugars, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Add the melted butter and use a fork to combine and form the crumbs.
  7. Spread the crumbs evenly over the apple mixture.
  8. Place pan in the center of the oven and cook until apples are tender and crumb topping is golden.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

Different varieties of apples can be used.
Additional ingredients can be added to the filling such as 1/2 cup raisins, dried cranberries or nuts.
Additional ingredients can also be added to the topping such as 1/2 cup chopped nuts (any variety.)

Can be served warm topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
